Attend an evening with Andre Agassi
The Prime Minister offered this picture of him hard at work on rowing machine when he joined Chris Evans for UK Radio Aid, a 12-hour fundraising broadcast for tsunami victims.
More than £3 million was pledged during the broadcast, which united 268 commercial stations, with £10,000 for a tour of Downing Street and tea with Mr Blair. Of his gym sessions he said: “I find it relieves the stress, and it’s also the time when I get to listen to music.”
Mr Blair was familiar with Eric Prydz’s song Call on Me, which features women doing aerobics in revealing leotards. “The first time it came on, I nearly fell off my rowing machine,” he said.
Mr Evans, making his radio comeback three years after being sacked by Virgin Radio, played Mr Blair the popular but irritating Crazy Frog ring tone. Mr Blair looked baffled and when asked if he or his children had such a tone for their phones, he said: “No, er, no . . . not that I know of.”
The Prime Minister said that he did not carry a mobile phone. “I don’t actually carry one with me. I do have one, but it just rings and rings if I take it with me,” he said.
Mr Blair was asked seven questions about his life when he submitted to a This Is Your Life-style quiz. Domestic harmony was maintained when he correctly answered that he would be celebrating his 23rd wedding anniversary with Cherie this year.
He could not remember that his teenage holiday job was apparently repairing bicycles, but Mr Blair had no difficulty recalling that it was John Prescott who was doused with water at the Brit Awards, and that Mark Ellen, his Ugly Rumours bandmate at Oxford, had become a television music presenter. Mr Blair scored an acceptable five out of seven and said: “Glad I got the wedding anniversary.”
Liam Gallagher, Sting and Ronan Keating also took part in the broadcast. Donations can be made online at www.ukradioaid.com or by calling 0870 5122288.
