27:01min Andy and company ask around for potential actresses. “They wouldn’t be able to make a whole film with just randoms off the street,” suggests Natalie, a talent booker.

28:31min The crew draw up a list of cast members. “We work out how many men and women we need, then go ahead and book them. A girl is paid less for a scene with a girl than with a guy,” says Annabelle.

31:46min Talk turns to the script. “We don’t have scripts,” Ellie explains. “Porn actors cannot act, so don’t let them.”

35:40min Their casting search takes the team to a bed store. “Good idea!” Ellie smiles. “We’ve never done one about a girl who works in a bed store.”

41:22min Now for a venue. “I’ve filmed in a corner shop, an estate agent’s and a hairdresser’s,” Ellie reveals. “I usually offer the owner a choice between taking part, watching or a bit of money. Most of them want to watch.”

43:20min Filming begins. “There’s too many people in the room,” Annabelle insists. “Usually it’s just the cameraman and the director on set — everyone else has to get out.”

51:59min The lead male actor is to be paid $3,000. “If they’ve not done it before, we wouldn’t pay them a penny,” Annabelle says. “Just travel expenses, if anything.”

57:52min Annabelle is impressed with the calibre of actresses. “We’ve used ranker women than that,” she says. “Yeah, haven’t you just,” Natalie adds.

61:30min “There’s been no talk of STDs yet,” Ellie notes. “The performers have to have certificates, which they show to each other beforehand,” Annabelle adds.

70:44min An actress’s boyfriend goes on a jealous rampage. “Some girls won’t sleep with certain guys because their boyfriends won’t let them,” says Ellie.

Verdict The problems encountered were realistic, our panel thought, although Charlotte, Ellie’s PA, pointed out that the film didn’t show “the dark side of porn”. Ellie, however, seemed relieved at the way the industry was portrayed: “There aren’t any seedy characters, and all the people are in it because they want to do it.”
