We have some fantastic Dr Seuss prizes to give away to children aged ten and under. Why? To celebrate a birthday – the 50th birthday of The Cat in the Hat – and also to mark World Book Day (on March 1).

Here’s what to do. In The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, the cat pulls lots of little cats out of his hat – but what else do you think he might have in there? It could be a friend, or a contraption, or anything, really – the more weird and wonderful, the better.

Draw a picture to show us what you think is under the cat’s hat, and write a little description of it (no more than 50 words).

Write your name, address, a telephone number of someone who can take a message for you and your date of birth on the reverse of your picture, and send it to Cat in the Hat Competition, Books, The Times, 1 Pennington Street, London E98 1TT.

Or you can e-mail your image (as a JPEG) to bookscomp@thetimes.co. uk, with Cat in the Hat Competition in the subject line, and your contact details in the e-mail.

Entries will be judged by Erica Wagner, literary editor of The Times, Amanda Craig, our children’s book reviewer, and Ayshea Scharf, publishing director at HarperCollins Children’s Books. This competition is open to people who are aged ten and under on March 1. All entries must be received by midnight on Monday March 12. Winners will be notified by March 20, and prizes will be received within 28 days of notification. One entry per person.
