Stories and Songs on today's free French CD, with The Times
The Royal Mail is marking Harry Potter mania with millions of stamps. Images from the covers of J. K. Rowling’s seven books will appear on first-class stamps. The crests of Hogwarts school and its four houses will also appear on a set of five. The stamps will be available on July 17, four days before the final book – Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – goes on sale. They were developed via a special licensing arrangement with Warner Bros and Bloomsbury.

If you decide to buy the Harry Potter stamps, you should be doing it for the pleasure of owning them. Do not expect them to be an investment which will earn you a fortune. Stamp prices are based on supply and demand and Royal Mail will be doing its very best to supply all the demand during the year the stamps are on sale from their bureau.
If you come to sell them you may find it is diffficult to recover your initial investment. This is a stamp issue in addition to the published programme and it could be claimed that Royal Mail are hoping that this will be a profitable venture with most of the stamps sold never being used for the purpose of postage.

I've never pre-ordered any of the books becasue they either come a week after the book's release or you have to wait in a big line to get the book!! I think I'll just walk in and buy it. It's quite sad really, but I'm sure Rowling's going to continue to write. I'm just so happy I lived during the phenomonom and it has inspired my life and, actually, my career.

Hi. I am Fiona from Australia. I know that I am the biggest Harry Potter fan that I know of. I would like to know if I can purchase the stamps from the Royal Mail as soon as I can. I have seen the movies at least seven times each at the movies plus numerous times at home (have lost count!!) and my books have become very dog-eared. Any one who can help me with the stamps would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Fi

This is a wonderful thing. How can fans, from other countries, purchase the stamps.

Money next, I guess :) Or, even more, they'll abolish Pounds and turn to Galleons... this is mania. Harry Potter for Prime Minister :)))

Hi, I'm Ashwin from India.I'm a huge harry potter fan.I've read all the books and seen all the movies at least thrice.I've already prebooked the latest book.I hope no one ruins the surprise that the last book has in store for us.I'd like to thank J.K.Rowling for such a wonderful experience.

In fairness, they released Lord of the Rings coins as legal tender in New Zealand, I don't think this is quite as bad as that.
Stamps are so often themed anyway, what's the harm in this?
Brendan, Ireland,
Don't U be so jealous...or better to say rude, Christiane and Critical (by the way, why did't you show us your real name?)! What's wrong with you? Harry Potter stamps? Common, is it really so easy to make you get nervous or be happy? Just don't buy all the Potter stuff...and be happy and peaceful, then! I think, it's a very good idea to put JKR's heroes on stamps - there's nothing but fun and joy for kids - nothing more!!! Common, very soon it will be over - in at least 5 or more years))).
Poline, Tyumen, Russia
I totally agree with Critical. I´m happy if it is over finally. Really.
A.S. Byatt was right when she called adults who make such a hype and fuss about the Harry Potter books as childish!
Christiane, Mülheim, Germany
Common it's the last book let them have their fun! I know i will be getting the stamps! Plus it adds to the fun for all the kids.
Vanessa, London,
Actually, it is a wonderful idea to give suport to an author who has changed a generation of childern into reading. Too much Harry Potter? Maybe, but no one is making you buy them! Thumbs up on this one!
Pedro, Monterrey, Mexico / Nuevo León
Thisis ridiculous! This is getting so out of hand! When are you people going to stop. Honestly. Is there not enough Harry Potter stuff out there already that you feel the need to stamp them all too. Good Grief!
