1. This competition will run on www.timesonline.co.uk from 23rd December 2007 to 5.00pm on 30th April 2008.

2. Closing date for entries is 5.00pm on 30th April 2008.

3. Competitions are open to UK and Eire residents aged 16 and over, excluding employees of the Promoter and Times Newspapers Limited (“TNL”), relatives of employees of the Promoter or TNL or of their respective parent, subsidiary or affiliated companies, their agents or any other person connected to this competition.

4. Entry is free but entrants should be aware that they may be subject to local call charges depending on their own individual arrangements for Internet access.

5. One entry per person. Eligible entries must be by the prescribed email route or by post to the correct postal address provided and entrants must include their name, telephone number and email address.

6. Entrants must submit a cover design suitable for the limited edition version of Crash by JG Ballard (to be released in September 2008) by Harper Perennial. Entries must be the original work of the entrant and not previously published. The entrant must retain their own copy, as no entries will be returned. Judges from Harper Collins will select their top six entries after the closing date from all the entries received. The judges will chose those entries which, in the opinion of the judges, demonstrate the greatest flair, technique and originality. The author JG Ballard will then select his favourite design as the winner. However, in the event the judges and author in their sole opinion determine that none of the entries are suitably creditworthy for a cover design the Promoters shall none the less select the best entry in accordance with these terms and conditions and award an alternative prize namely [a copy of Miracles of Life by JG Ballard.]

7. The judges’ and author’s decisions are final. No correspondence will be entered into.

8. Winners will be notified either by email or telephone within 28 days of the competition closing date. In the event that a winner cannot be contacted within a reasonable period after the draw, the Promoter reserves the right to select another winner.

9. No responsibility can be accepted for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged or undelivered. Incomplete, inaudible and/or illegible entries will be disqualified. The Promoters and TNL shall not be responsible for technical errors in telecommunications networks, internet access or otherwise preventing entry to any competition.

10. There is one main prize. The winner will have their design featured on the cover of the limited edition Crash due for publication in September 2008. Their name will be featured within the cover.

11. There are five runner up prizes. Five runners up will receive a copy Miracles of Life by JG Ballard. The Promoter shall bear the cost of post and packing and the prize will be delivered within 6 weeks of the closing date of the competition. Prizes are as stated and are non-transferable. No cash alternatives will be offered. If due to circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control the Promoter is unable to provide the stated prize, the Promoter reserves the right to award a substitute prize.

12. The Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner in the event that the Promoter has reasonable grounds for believing that an entrant has contravened any term or condition of entry.
