Titan Books is giving away a copy of Watching the Watchmen signed by Dave Gibbons, co-creator of the original Watchmen series and a leading comics artist on both sides of the Atlantic
Voted among Time magazine’s 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the
present, a perennial bestseller since its release and widely considered the
greatest graphic novel of all time, WATCHMEN is a gripping, labyrinthine
piece of comic art. Written by comics living-legend Alan Moore and featuring
the iconic artwork of Dave Gibbons, it has earned an acclaimed place in
modern literary history. The feature film adaptation of WATCHMEN, directed
by Zack Snyder (300), will hit theatres in 2009 from Warner Bros. Pictures
and Paramount Pictures.
WATCHING THE WATCHMEN is the colossal book that sheds new light on this seminal work. Providing the ultimate companion to the comics masterpiece, artist Dave Gibbons gives his own account of the genesis of WATCHMEN in this majestic volume, opening his archives to reveal excised pages, early versions of the script, original character designs, sketches and much more, including posters, covers and rare portfolio art. Featuring the breathtaking design of Chip Kidd and Mike Essl, WATCHING THE WATCHMEN is both a major art book in its own right, and the definitive companion to the graphic novel that changed an industry.
“The greatest piece of popular fiction ever produced.” — Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof
“Watchmen is peerless.” — Rolling Stone
About Watchmen - A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, the film is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?
