This is excellent. I am now thinking of ways i can make a bob or two like ED... having spent time in stepney green, with with YMO, HT, BNP, LIB/DEM and the Labour party...
I wish to thank ED for opening up the avenue of making money... cash machine.. sell your youth,,.
Hussein, STEPNEY,
God has granted Mr. Amis manifest literary expertise, its a shame at times he uses it for suspect objectives.
The current hype about the extremists version of Islamic Caliphate needs to be countered with facts. Repeated mention on the lines of a nation state of science-fictional power waging Jihad on the world may very well work into the psyche of the world as credible truth.
The real Islamic model of Caliphate could not be further from this. Muslims may have ardent allegiance to a Caliph and function as perfect citizens of a democracy. The significant factor is that Islam requires obedience to the state and a Caliph cannot go against this Islamic ruling.
Its noteworthy that this is not fictional vagueness or fantasy but has existed in practice here in Britain for several decades. The Ahmadiyya Muslim community has supreme loyalty to their Caliph but we are also very good British citizens, loyal to Queen and country. There is no conflict between the two notions.
We enthusiastically participate in civic matters and peacefully co-exist with our neighbours. Next year our community commemorates one hundred years of Caliphate; that is, a hundred years of Caliphate on the true Islamic principles. Ours is an established, indubitable practice which is firmly rooted in Islam.

"like Lenin and Mao". The problem with these two rascals was that they convinced so many to venerate them as gods. They may have been atheists, but they surely knew how to be the focus of a religion. I for one, as atheist, have absolutely no ambitions in that direction. So please stop comparing me with those imposters.
Ed Zuiderwijk, Cambridge, UK
Absolutely right Rob-now the time to cash in on the years I mispent my youth!!
salman, london, uk
This info is totally absurb and ridiculous. Jamat-e-Islami never teaches Radicalism, and in the List of Terrorist organizations by US CIA, JI is not included in it, instead there are a lot of ethenic based and Secular organizations of South Asia.
There should be a better style of making fun of Islam.
PLZ Try again coz u failed this time.
ECON, Chicago, Illinios
Yes Andy, thankyou for such words of wisdom.
You are just so smart
hmmm, london,
Kerr-ching! I wanna be a reformed radical and write a book about it too, seems more of a money maker than buy-to-let.
Robert, London, UK
ah yes, the atheists, ... like Lenin and Mao, they shout "we do this for the greater good of humanity". How many millions was it?
J McCormack, UK,
This has more to do with islam than a culture.
Andy, London, UK
This has more to do with a culture than islam.
Tariq, ashford, kent, England
The problem with your article is that it is too bias. It is widely acknowledged with in the political academia and the across political medium that Political Islam exist as an ideology.
So first thing is that you need to give some respect to its ideological bases.
Second while it is an amazing effort how you highlighted problems that exist with in Islam and organizations such as Hizb, you failed to mention any link to the occupation of Iraq, support to dictators by the West to the brutal dictators in the Muslim countries and the continues colonization that exist due to institutions e.g. World Bank / IMF, who act as a proxy to western intervention.
Above are some of the reasons why such organizations and such turmoil is existing in the Muslim world.
I guess you got a book to sell.
Tauseef Zahid, London,
Ed Hussain's life was really miserable. Happiest news is he'ss quit.
