Widely tipped as the year's best British film, This Is England is the latest release from director Shane Meadows

To coincide with the film's release on Friday, 27 April, Times Online and Optimum Releasing have a great prize up for grabs.

One lucky winner can win a red iPod (4GB), a This Is England poster and t-shirt signed by the director and a copy of the film's brilliant soundtrack. You'll also win a copy of Dead Man's Shoes on DVD (also directed by Shane Meadows).

This Is England tells the story of a summertime school holiday, those long weeks between terms where life-changing events can take place. It's 1983, and the schools are breaking up for summer. Shaun is 12 and a bit of a loner, growing up with his mum in a desolate coastal town. After being tormented all day for wearing flares, Shaun runs into a group of skinheads on his way home. Against expectations they turn out to be friendly and take him under their wing.

Soon Shaun discovers parties, girls and snappy dressing, and finds role models in Woody, Milky and the rest of the gang. But when an older, overtly racist skinhead returns home from prison, the easy camaraderie of the group is broken, and Shaun is drawn into much more uncomfortable territory.

Based largely on his own experience as a youngster, this is Shane Meadows' most mature and fully realised film.
