The latest Pirates of the Caribbean film has sailed into the record books despite mainly bad reviews.
The third instalment in the trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, has taken $401 million dollars (£202 million) around the world in its first six days of release - the most lucrative opening in cinema history, according to makers Walt Disney.
The total surpasses the $382 million million (£192 million) set by Spiderman 3 earlier this year.
In the UK, the film took £13.4 million over the rainy opening weekend - the highest box office of the year.
Critics have been overwhelmingly unimpressed by the latest adventure which reunites Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. But audiences have voted with their feet.
Mark Zoradi of Disney said: "We knew that audiences all over the world were excited to see Johnny Depp and the rest of the fantastic Pirates cast in this latest adventure, but this record-setting response at the global box office has been nothing short of incredible.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End now has the distinction of having the biggest opening in movie history, and we're extremely proud of that achievement."
Disney has announced plans for an online Pirates of the Caribbean game which will allow players to create a virtual world set on the high seas.

After seeing the 3rd installment, I went out and bought the 1rst and 2nd movies so I could have the collection! im a huge fan of Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. 'At worlds end' was the best one I've seen out of all. Because it all came together in the end, and the good triumphed over the bad:) The romance between Orlando & Keira were ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! I wanted to cry because he could only see her ONCE every TEN YEARS! There has to be a Pirates 4! cross my fingers. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush was amazing in it. AND incredibly funny to watch! I have so much respect for Johnny and Orlando because it truly shows that these actors are not just a pretty face but they could really act. Overall, the movie was very fantastic! (i dont care what anyone sais) It's a kind of movie where it grabs you and takes you along the adventure with it. It had everything I like in a movie.
Laughter, thrill, adventure, a bit a scary, and romance :) To me, thats worth going to the movies for.

I thought Pirates 3 was the worst movie of the 3. I hated the ending and felt like the caractures changed their personalities. If there is ever a Pirates 4 I hope they fix what they messed up in Pirates 3. I do have to say though that Johnny, Kiera, and Orlando shined as always.

I thought Pirates 3 was wonderful - the whole cast did a magnificent job acting! The time went by so quickly, I couldn't believe it was over - There MUST be a Pirates 4, it just cannot be the end!
Thank you all (especially Johnny)

I don't care what anyone says, that movie was VERY good! Most people say that they don't like it because it was confusing, but if you listened close enough, all the questions from previous movies were answered. If they hadn't had made it that long, people would have been mad that they left loose ends. So yea, people can shut up! Casue this movie was great!

I thought it was one of the best movies I have ever seen, funny, exciting, touching and a great way to get away from the real world problems for three hours. I loved it!!!!!

I thought Pirates III was AWESOME! I loved how much darker it was from the beginning to end. Everyone at Studio Movie Grill in Arlington applauded when it was finished, and everyone I went with said it was fantastic. I hope there's at least one more Pirates movie, and I hope they find the fountain of youth and Orlando Bloom's Character can live again!
