Attend a special evening hosted by Mike Atherton
The excerpt began with that classic opening title sequence zoom through the clouds into Springfield, but took a different route through the homes of various characters before settling on a live concert featuring rock band Green Day.
Pausing their set to talk about environmentalism, the band are booed by rock throwing locals, before their floating stage sinks, with Green Day going down with their stage, playing violins in a scene resembling the final moments of the Titanic.
A later scene features Homer and Bart on the roof of their house playing dares.
Homer dares Bart to climb the TV antennae. Bart then dares Homer to carry bricks on his back while being shot with a beebee gun. Finally, in a triumphant scene, Homer dares Bart to skateboard naked through Springfield.
What follows is an extended 'hide the willy’ gag, with Bart riding across town with his modesty narrowly preserved by pointing people, Frisbees, railings and icecreams.
As he rides past Ralf Wiggum, Ralf blurts out "I like men now". Finally the only thing visible is Bart’s naked crotch, before he slams into the window of a diner where the Flanders are lunching.
Highbrow humour it ain’t – hilarious it most certainly is.
So what else can we expect from the film?
“Get there early”, says Groening, for an extended Itchy and Scratchy cartoon.
The film is scored by Hans Zimmer (who won an Oscar for his score for the Lion King), features a script from the all-star writing team who have worked on the Simpsons over the years, promises tragedy, romance, Bart’s naked willy, and much more.
The theme of the film? “That a man should listen to his wife”.
Groening adds “It’s a romantic movie, really, in which Homer falls in love with a pig.”
Expect an ever accelerating stream of hype and fervour in the lead up to the launch at the end of the month.
