Jude Law is the latest Hollywood star to fall foul of the law after being arrested for allegedly attacking a photographer outside his London home.
The 34-year-old, who recently returned from the Venice Film Festival, is said to have attempted to grab the photographer’s camera in the alleged incident outside his house in the plush Maida Vale district of west London yesterday.
According to police the Alfie star was bailed to return to a London police station in October “pending further inquiries”.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man from Maida Vale was arrested yesterday on suspicion of actual bodily harm after voluntarily attending a London police station.
“The arrest followed an allegation of assault yesterday at a residential address in Maida Vale.”
Law’s agent was unavailable for comment.
Law received Oscar nominations for his performances in Cold Mountain (2004) and The Talented Mr Ripley (2000).
He recently returned from the Venice Film Festival where he was promoting his new film Sleuth, in which he stars alongside Michael Caine. The film is in contention for the coveted festival’s Golden Lion prize for best film.
Law is the latest in a long line of celebrities who have become embroiled in police matters involving the paparazzi.
In April Hugh Grant was arrested for allegedly throwing a container of baked beans at a photographer outside his west London home. The Four Weddings and a Funeral star was not charged over the incident.
And Sir Paul McCartney’s estranged wife Heather Mills recently took a photographer to court for grabbing her while trying to take her picture. The freelance photographer, Jay Kaycappa, was found guilty of assault.
