A sequel to Nolan’s well-received 2005 reboot of the Batman franchise Batman Begins, The Dark Knight will be the first of the long-running series not to have the hero’s name in the title.
A trailer for the film is being shown before Will Smith's I am Legend in US cinemas and, predictably, shaky camera-phone footage of the clip was to be found distributed liberally across the web within hours of the first screening. The trailer can be downloaded from this site, one of the network of viral sites promoting the film.
The first poster seen by fans, the ‘Joker graffiti’ image, gave rise to fears that the next instalment might be a Joker movie with Batman as a supporting character.
This was an accusation frequently levelled at Tim Burton’s 1989 take on the comic book caper in which Jack Nicholson’s scenery-chewing performance as the Clown Prince of Crime rather overshadowed Michael Keaton's brooding vigilante.
The new image puts the Caped Crusader centre-stage, looking out over a less dystopian Gotham skyline than seen in previous Batman films.
A few other details have emerged from the set of next summer’s most certain box-office hit: In addition to his military-inspired ‘stealth tank’ Batmobile, Batman will have an armed motorcycle to convey him around the streets of Gotham City.
Not only will Heath Ledger play The Joker but ‘Black Dahlia’ star Aaron Eckhart will be appearing as Harvey Dent, the Gotham district attorney who in Batman lore is transformed by an acid attack into Manichean madman Two-Face. This last detail hints perhaps at the outline of the inevitable third film in the retooled franchise.

Giving the directorial role for the Batman series to Chris Nolan is the best decision hollywood has made in the last 20 years. I'll be there on the opening night with my Nacho's, move over Jack Nicolson, there's a new Joker in town

Honestly can't wait. What you looking at here (or at least reading the words of) is the biggest Batman fan alive. Oh how I cringed at the ever-more pathetic sequels to Tim Burton's now cult classic (George Clooney, Val Kilmer go and hang your heads in shame) as this dark, haunted, some would say crazy 'knight' in jet black armour was turned into a bloody circus act.
Great job on Batman Begins from big Chris. Heath Ledger would never ever ever have figured in my list of potential 'successors' to Jack Nickolson, but by the look of the trailer it seems to be an inspired selection (though not a fan of his previous stuff if truth be told).
ROLL ON SUMMER 2008!!!!....scratch that......ROLL ON BATMAN 3!!!!

Yes Greg the film doesn't have Batman in it, durrrrrrrrrrr wake up my friend
mullerken, Carlisle,
Batman's a repressed psychopath, the Joker's a nihilistic murderer, and they're both SCARY.
SO sexy.
Alex McAwesome, USA,
Thankyou Jason of Calgary for your insightful comment, and Greg of Leatherhead for your biting criticism. Personally, I'm very much looking forward to watching Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker. Being a big fan of Tim Burton, Jack Nicholson and the Batman, the first movie should have been a perfect combination but the mix was somewhat unbalanced. I'm also hoping that Aaron Eckhart gets screentime, his performance in 'Thank You for Smoking' was top notch. Christopher Nolan did a great job with 'Batman Begins', a blockbuster with a great script and stylish visuals- who'd of thunk it?

Christian Bale is Batman of course! Don't judge too early folks, the last one was great.
B K, U.S.A,
Looks like the same old garbage.

And who is acting batman, or is the film missing one?
