Heath Ledger’s unfinished role in the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus could be completed by Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell.
A spokeswoman for Law today told Times Online that the British actor is in discussions to appear alongside Farrell and Depp as the lead character Tony.
"Negotiations have not yet been finalised and his participation will depend on the whole thing falling into place," she said.
The $30 million fantasy film is believed to involve a supernatural mirror that takes people into different dimensions, allowing director Terry Gilliam to switch between actors.
It is thought Gilliam, who previously worked with Ledger on The Brothers Grimm, wants to retain the footage shot of the late actor.
Initially he was believed to have considered using computer-generated imagery to complete the project.
Ledger died on January 22 from an accidental prescription drug overdose. He had just finished shooting a third of the movie in London and was about to begin a 40-day shoot in Vancouver, Canada. Production was suspended immediately after the 28-year-old was found dead in his rented New York apartment.
It is not the first time disaster has struck one of Gilliam’s films. The director, who has co-written The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, was forced to abandon The Man Who Killed Don Quixote after the production suffered freak flash-floods and the 70-year-old lead actor, Jean Rocheforte, became seriously ill.
Shortly after Ledger’s death, the film’s producers paid tribute to the Australian actor, calling him "a great actor, a great friend and a great spirit".
Ledger was farewelled at a memorial service in Perth a week ago. His former fiancé, actress Michelle Williams, attended, but their two-year-old daughter Matilda was absent.
Williams and Ledger met on the set of Brokeback Mountain, and broke up a four months prior to his death.
The actor had subsequently suffered from insomnia and had been taking sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication.
Earlier this month New York's chief medical officer, Charles Hirsch, ruled Ledger died from the combined effects of six prescription drugs.
