My 59 yr old (oldest) brother has just been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and has been admitted to the hospital just this past friday. I learned of his condition when I came out of my own knee surgery on St. Patties Day. I am a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room. I deal with many different situations everyday. I was even a Chemo Therapy Nurse before going to serve the patients in the OR.... and believe me, that was something I did not want to face d/t losing my MOM back in 1988 from cancer. Now, this deadly disease once again has touched my family as it is touching yours. I am but a small voice in this world but, would like to say... "You are never alone. Where there is family... there is "LOVE". And because of them... You will remain alive.

Wow! I have lost a sister at 55, in 2001, and then a brother at 65 2005, both of pancreatic cancer. In the meantime lost my mom, bone cancer, in between and then another sister at 51 two years ago with liver cancer. Am on a familial genetic study at 2 famous cancer centers in the US. All of my immediate family had cancer and the problem is, with pancreatic cancer the symptoms do not occur till they are already in stage 4.
We are desperately trying to start a Pan Can program here in Charlotte NC and somehow, having some problems getting it all together. Not sure if most patients or family and caregivers are unaware of this wonderful program, or even...how do we get the word out!!
I so worry about my child and her children soemday, for it is a genetic and awful monster!
Need any and all suggestions from anyone out there for need to get this monster at least treated, with a drug that actually works, or the ultimate...cured!!

Recovering from the Whipple and then going through the Chemo and the Radiation is awful but watch your nutrtion and listen to the docs and you will come out the othr side. Hubby had pancreatic cancer - was given 5-11 months to live. He survived 3 years. Bottom line, what needs to be done, if the cancer goes into remission, have a FULL body scan to see if it has spread. This is what happened in our case, not once, but twice during these 3 years. It was only chance that the cancer was discovered in his lung 1 year after he was declared cancer free. That was cured, but came back again.
