He offended Christians, Jews, women, men and the entire population of Kazakhstan with Borat, now Sacha Baron Cohen is to dish up another dose of his merciless humour in a new film.
Bruno is scheduled for a May 15, 2009 release and will star Baron Cohen, 36, as the faux Austrian fashionista he made famous in his TV series Da Ali G Show.
The gay catwalk groupie sucks in unsuspecting members of the fashion world, convincing them to wax lyrical about apparel until they embarrass themselves.
His last film, whose full, inventive moniker was Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, made a splash in the winter of 2006, grossing more than £60 million for Twentieth Century Fox.
The farcical storyline – which sung the praises of bestiality and took in a bout of naked wrestling – won the spoof documentary an Oscar nomination and bagged Baron Cohen a Golden Globe, but resulted in a slew of law suits and a wave of outrage.
The notoriously private British comedian, who has one child with his fiancee, actress Isla Fisher, was accused of anti-Semitism, although he himself is Jewish, and criticised for the way he portrayed Kazakhstan. Law suits filed by participants in the film failed.
Despite Borat’s success, Bruno will have stiff competition at the box office as The Da Vinci Code sequel Angels and Demons, starring Tom Hanks, is due for release the same day.
