Brüno has been our favourite Austrian fashion reporter since we caught him on the cable station OJRF during the Vienna biennale back in 1998. From Get Uber It to Funkyzeit mit Brüno (Funkytime with Brüno), we’ve watched with admiration as he took to the catwalk at the Lloyd Klein show, interviewed Gisele Bündchen and failed to gain entry to the Marc Jacobs party, despite offering extensive party favours. So, when we heard he had a film coming out that charts his attempts to penetrate America’s celebrity culture, we jumped at the chance to cosy up with our own little bunker boy.

What’s your all-time favourite item of clothing?

It has to be mein yellow lederhosen. If zey could talk, zey vould probably ask to be vashed. Also, ich have ein catsuit actually made of cat fur. Ich got in ein lot of trouble about zat, but all ze cats vere taken from old people who vould probably not remember zem anyvay.

How did you get your job in fashion TV?

Ich used to vork at Vienna’s coolest nightclub — Klub Apartheid. I vorked in ze bathromm zere as a urinal. One day, ich vas pisched on by a top producer und ze rest ist history. Ze first show ich presented vas called Get Uber It. If something really bad had happened to someone, like they’ve just broken up, or lost a father, we would redo their house for zem. We vould start out mit two loud-hailers, shouting, “Get Uber It!” Zen we take everything out of ze house. We had this guy whose wife died in a fire, so to cheer him up, we brought in zese amazing curtains and it totally transformed the apartment.

Do you enjoy your job?

Ich am now ze host of Funkyzeit und ich enjoy it very much. Vhen I started, Funkyzeit vas a tiny cable show, but now, after eight years, ich have expanded ze viewership to almost 7% of gay white males aged between 17 and 23 in ze  Schleswig-Holstein region of ze south Austrian Tyrol. No big deal vassever.

What’s the best/worst thing about the fashion industry?

Ze best thing is all ze free clothes. Ze last item of clothing ich actually paid for vas a replacement jacket ich had to buy Stella McCartney to stop her suing me after ich did a scheisse in her suitcase at Milan fashion week in 2005. NOBODY blanks Brüno. Ze last thing ich bought for meinself vas ein shirt made from wire coat hangers. Unfortunately, mein housekeeper untangled it. Ze problem vas fixed, though, mit ein call to ze immigration department. Auf Wiedersehen, Rosa!

Any other big likes or dislikes?

Ich like Daniel Radcliffe. Ich dislike Daniel Radcliffe’s security.
