Did you have some - or even all - of the final five in mind after viewing their videos? Or did the selection process of the final five only really begin when the 100 people arrived at the first task? Sophie Gilloway, Belfast
I had a couple of people I really liked – one was in the final five and the other went out in an early round on the 100-5 day [a day of tests designed to eliminate unsuitable candidates]. Although I was careful to spread paranoia on the day amongst the 100 [candidates], I had no way of controlling who eventually made it.
On the night you said something along the lines of: “Choose one of those numbers … choose one. It doesn’t matter which one it is … Are you thinking of one now …? Check that it’s going in the correct chamber, the one that you’re thinking of … Is it going in the correct one?” Is that how you did it? Martin Malinovski, Thornton Heath
Perhaps that was part of it. I don’t like to be specific about methods, but well observed.
James [the man chosen to load the gun] was asked to count to six after he had placed the bullet in the chamber. Is this how you tell where the bullet is? Is it the number that the person blurts out the quickest? Matthew Stinchcombe, London
Again, I don’t like to be too specific about methods. But you can imagine that if you’re concentrating on a number between one and six, you might display signs of tension around the number you’re trying not to give away. One and six are the most difficult to gauge when looking for such a shift.
