To say that Bruce Almighty is a Jim Carrey vehicle is an understatement akin to calling Bill Gates solvent. Carrey plays Bruce Nolan, a reporter who is fired from his job after a bitter outburst on live TV. When he rants to God (Freeman) that his life is unfair, he is granted divine powers that he misuses to enlarge his girlfriend’s breasts and make himself a successful anchorman.

Like many mainstream romantic comedies it starts with a strong idea and sharp gags, then sinks into sentimentality. The extras focus on Carrey and his zany improvisation, and reveal that he tries, sometimes unsuccessfully, to plant catchphrases in all his films. Anyone familiar with “good, goood”? Thought not.
