4:31min The teenage stunt rider Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) enters the carnival ring. “You wouldn’t catch us in white leathers!” yells Paul.

4:52min Johnny rides past the crowd, smiling at his girlfriend, Roxy. “We’re all show-offs!” laughs Dave. “But generally you don’t pay too much attention to what others are looking at. It’s very easy to come off.”

6:43min Johnny’s father refers to his bike as “Grace”. “My bike’s name is Bettie Page. Have you ever seen a picture of her? She’s almost as good as a Harley!” Dave laughs.

7:29min Johnny suggests that he and Roxy “jump on the bike and just keep going”. “You wouldn’t get far on that small tank,” Dave grunts. “In that skirt she’d burn her leg on the exhaust!” adds Nick.

20:47min Johnny crashes and his helmet is removed. “You would never take the helmet off after a crash in case his neck is broken,” says Paul.

24:51min An angry-looking bouncer says his bar is “Angels only”. “That’s stereotypical. The Hell’s Angels are now very well organised and they are nice people,” says Paul. “I know one who’s a doctor,” Nick adds.

38:33min Johnny, now an adult biker, wheelies alongside Roxy’s car. “That’s a definite fine – wheelies are outlawed in America,” David advises. “A lot of fun, though,” grins Nick.

43:51min Johnny speeds through the city on a flaming chopper. “That’s the iconic Harley. It’s the same bike as in Easy Rider, but with a different paint job,” says Dave.

48:35min Johnny’s head bursts into flames as he becomes the fearsome Ghost Rider. “He’s just got the bill for his service!” Nick jokes.

64:34min Johnny takes off his top to reveal a muscular physique. “Bikers come in all shapes and sizes,” David observes. “Pass the doughnuts,” Dave adds.

67:21min Roxy looks around the motorbike paraphernalia in Johnny’s house. “My house is full of bike stuff. Half of my hot rod is in the living room,” admits Nick.

VERDICT

David felt that it gave a clichéd portrayal of a biker, but was a fun film. Dave said that, though he enjoyed the film, it bore little relation to his life as a motorcyclist. Paul felt it sensationalised the bad-boy biker image and offered an outdated view of a Harley-Davidson. He accepted, though, that a contemporary one would not have worked so well. Nick agreed, and enjoyed the film more than he expected.
