The games teacher talks to Gregory (John Gordon Sinclair). “Those are our changing rooms,” says Amy Donnelly, 16.
10:30min
“He's wearing the same school tie as us,” cries Vahri Ingleston, 16.
12:19min
Exterior shots of the school. “The only difference now are the security gates and fences around the school,” says Amy.
14:55min
Dorothy (Dee Hepburn) makes her first appearance on “the ash” - the football pitch - at a practice the games teacher said was boys-only. Hepburn has since been back to the school selling specialist equipment for pupils with disabilities.
15.25min
Dorothy outclasses the boys. “We have a girls' team, but they don't play as many games, or have as much money, as the boys',” reveals Amy. “Having a girl play on an all-boys' team would still be seen as strange.”
19:00min
Home economics for Gregory. “We've still got the same ovens,” cries Dianne Wright, 17.
26:10min
Gregory tells Dorothy he “bruises like a peach”. “He's such a geek,” says Amy. “I wouldn't hang about with him,” says Grant Gallacher, 16.
32:40min
A child in a penguin suit appears. “What is that about?” asks Dianne.
33:50min
“Even the desks are the same,” says Dianne. “We've got carpets now and the doors are a different colour,” says Amy.
40:40min
The boys are talking about girls. “I live there, that's my house,” cries Vahri.
42:00min
Gregory's sister gives him advice. “What little sister would talk to her big brother like that?” asks Vahri.
44:50min
Gregory talks about Dorothy. “Boys talk mostly about football,” says Grant. “If it gets serious a guy might talk about a girl, but after a while you'd tell him to shut up.” “That's rubbish,” counters Dianne. “I have a free period with guys and all they talk about is girls.”
47:40min
Gregory miaows out of his bedroom window. “He's very lonely,” comments Vahri.
53:01min
Gregory talks to a group of girls. “Boys and girls are much more mixed these days,” says Amy.
68:20min
“I work in there,” cries Vahri as Gregory and paramour buy chips. “The same person still owns it.”
76:00min
Gregory and Susan (Clare Grogan) dance lying on the ground. “I'm embarrassed for him,” says Vahri. Grogan came back to the school two years ago to present a commemorative plaque on the film's 25th anniversary.
82:13min
“What happened to that penguin?” asks Dianne.
83:55min
Gregory's mates give up on a plan to hitch to “Caracus”. Vahry says: “There isn't anything for teenagers to do around here, especially after they took away the cinema.”
VERDICT
The children liked the film, though Amy was embarrassed listening to her own accent. Kathryn Mackie, 16, thought the ending didn't make sense. Most thought the film was “unrealistic” and would like to see a 2008 version with a confident Gregory.
