The town of Barrow, Alaska, closes down for the winter, leaving only 152 inhabitants behind: irresistible prey to a wandering troupe of vampires who come to the conclusion that a town with no daylight for a month might be a good place to put down roots.

The look of this impressive vampire slasher may have its origins in the Steve Niles comic that inspired it, but the relentless pace and perpetual motion of the camera are all about Slade’s background in rock videos. Despite being covered in gore and in hiding for weeks, our hero Hartnett manages to keep his square chin clean-shaven throughout, which is as it should be.

The extras offer more than the usual anodyne reflections. This film looks as much fun to make as it is to watch.
