Jane holds up the bride’s dress as she sits and pees. “Helping the bride go to the bathroom is the primary job of a bridesmaid,” says Bex Palmer. “It’s especially difficult when the bride is paralytic,” Anna adds.

Jane’s wardrobe is packed with bridesmaid dresses. “You always end up with all these dresses that you’ll never wear again. I have four,” says Miranda Harris. “I had four and another is on the way,” Anna adds. “I have seven,” Bex admits.

Jane buys a newspaper and goes straight to the wedding page. The eternal bridesmaid obviously wants to get married. “I have actually cried at a wedding, hoping that it would be me next,” says Miranda. “But as they say, ‘Girls – right men; men – right time,’ ” Bex adds.

Kevin (James Marsden) gives Jane back her lost Filofax and admits he’s read it. “That’s the way to a girl’s heart,” Bex laughs.

Tess (Malin Akerman), Jane’s sister, falls for George (Ed Burns), the object of her sibling’s unrequited love. “If I fancied a guy and my sister stepped in, I’d tell her where to go,” says Anna.

Cut to a punk wedding, at which Jane is once again a bridesmaid. She looks decidedly uncomfortable in her special themed outfit. “I had a tight bridesmaid dress made for me once but I put on weight and burst it,” recalls Anna.

“What do you like about weddings?” Jane asks Kevin.

“I like when the bride walks into the church,” sighs Miranda. “I like the speeches,” Bex says. “I like the food,” Anna says with a smile.

Jane and Tess come to blows in a prewedding ceremony. “I have seen fights, people stripping off and dancing on the tables – and that’s before the food is served,” laughs Anna.

Jane decides to throw out her dresses. “I could never do that,” says Miranda. “I did!” admits Anna.

VERDICT

A wide range of opinions from our bridesmaids. “I thought it was lovely,” sniffed Miranda, holding back a tear. “I thought it was just about watchable,” said Anna. “I enjoyed it but a few glasses of wine surely helped,” said Bex.
