Mamma Mia! The Movie has become the UK's fastest-selling DVD of all time according to Official Charts Company.
Universal Pictures said DVD sales were 1.67 million on Monday.
The previous day-one sales record was held for a decade by James Cameron's 1998 epic Titanic which sold 1.1 million copies on the first day of release in UK.
The feel-good movie stormed the UK earlier this year with box office takings reaching £66,995,244.
Ian Foster, managing director of Universal Pictures (UK) said: "For Mamma Mia! The Movie to become the UK's fastest selling DVD of all time is a phenomenal achievement.
"Its success is testament to the fun-loving spirit of the British public and the universal appeal of this wonderful film."
Meryl Steep led the cast in the feature film adaptation of the Abba-inspired musical that starred Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Stellan Skarsgard and Dominic Cooper.
Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "This is an absolutely phenomenal opening day for Mamma Mia! The Movie - we genuinely have never seen its like before in 10 years of tracking DVD retail sales."
James Davies, Asda DVD buyer, said: "We sold 300,000 copies, our biggest day-one DVD of all time.
"At its peak, we were selling 10 copies a second with the DVD leaving in 15% of all baskets on the day."
