Attend a special evening hosted by Mike Atherton
Load up for a tequila-fuelled frenzy in this explosive homage to the films of Robert Rodriguez, an electrifying romp in which the gun-toting madness is played for laughs.
Just freed from jail, Ramiro Cruz heads to Mexico seeking revenge on the underworld figures who murdered his father. So begins a personal tour of duty that brings carnage at just about every turn. The more flamboyant the kill notched up by Ramiro, the more points he earns — and here, points spell further violence since they increase his murderous abilities tenfold. All the killing is against the clock, and style is rewarded with an increasingly powerful arsenal and more acrobatic moves.
Fancy footwork is served up with moves that, with practice, include stylish cartwheel flips and slow-motion shoot-outs. Ramiro can also slip behind the wheel of the vehicles that he finds dotted around the scorched landscape to mow down even more enemies.
Total Overdose does not boast the richest and silkiest of graphics, yet it does have 20 levels of gameplay with an appropriate B-movie feel. Although the game’s longevity may be in doubt, its ability to engross is assured.
