Straightheads has the pornographic ingredients of a first-rate cult thriller. It’s cheap. There is copious foot-age of Gillian Anderson’s naked breasts. It features the football über-yob, Danny Dyer, as a super-thick toy boy. The plot is nasty, brutish and short. And the Jacobean twists bring tears to the eyes.
I don’t think I’ve ever written a more glowing report for a low-budget British horror film. The mismatched heroes are savagely brutalised by cocky farmers after a stag accidentally jumps through the front windscreen of their car. The revenge . . . oh my God, the revenge.

I thought the movie was entertaining. I'm a fan of Gillian Anderson, and I thought she did a good job of acting the rather difficult parts. I agree with Ryan Moss when he says he felt like punching Danny Dyer's character from the start. He is a big, masculine man, playing a wuss to a small woman.
Stacey, San Diego, United States
Low budget, gritty, brutal and in your face. Gillian Anderson is amazing. Even with the plot holes and coincidences, it's a great film.
Julie, Halifax, Canada
I made the mistake of watching this film last night, and I was misguidingly expecting an interesting, gritty thriller.
What a total load of tripe..my reveiw would normally be more descriptive, but in all honesty I consider my comments 'generous'.
Weak, scatty storyline, pathetic acting and uber-ridiculous morphing of coincidence. Who wrote this? Give me 30mins and I could offer you a script superior to the content of 'Straightheads'.
I'm normally a fan of Danny Dyer, and Film 4 productions, but they must be really pushed to produce this...tax deduction perhaps?
Gillian Anderson, normally talented in her role, offers a wooden performace, paired with Dyer's bleating character (who you just feel like punching from the off).
The potential of the acting talent available in this movie, is sadly wasted, and leaves the viewer praying for the credit roll.
Although other comments are to the contrary. Dull.
Ryan Moss, Birmingham, England
5 words come to mind after seeing this movie. What would you have done?
Larry, London, United Kingdom
This was funded by the UK Film Council to the tune of £500,000 from lottery funds as a "good cause". Why are they using public funds to make overtly commercial films that should be able to be funded from private sources if they have potential? Wouldn't a day care centre or scheme to get disadvantaged kids into filmmaking have been better use of £500,000?
John Marshall, Chester,
Mary Whitehouse would be proud of you Hugh Philips.
I think you'll find films of this type have been around for decades and have nothing to do with the current culture of 2007 and in no way impact upon it either. I suggest you stick with something less challenging like the Care Bear movie or anything staring Hugh Grant.
James, London, UK
Viloence is a bad thing! What's profoundly eroding our culture is people like Hugh Philips who can't spell. The film opens tomorrow Hugh, so you can't have seen it yet... Or have you?
Hguh Plihilps, Glasgow,
This film is a clear demonstration of how the relaxation of censorship is erroding the standard of our culture. The graphic representation of a viloent rape would be bad enough, but the ending is so disgusting as to defy description. The Times should know better than to encourage such gratuitious filth.
Hugh Philips, London, United Kingdom
