Copying Beethoven is an Ed Harris vanity vehicle with a superior backing track. The genial American plays the spiky deaf tyrant and therein lies the flaw. The music is wonderful. It’s by Beethoven. But the actor is impossible to take seriously. He is a floppy-haired, canterkerous old goon who is completely besotted with his secretary (Diane Kruger). His most outrageous act is to pull down his pants and moon her. She is deeply unimpressed, but she is also the most appealing scenery in this rose-tinted nonsense.

Judging by the rate you've given to the film, you're obviously a film lover who doesn't know much about music or "soul"..
Despite having scenes that aren't fact-based, the film has made great contrast to reality and demonstrate what LvB might had wanted. After all, it's a film, Not a "Biography".

A wonderful movie about a wonderful character! The music is devine, excellent, the make-up and costumes are perfect, the filming is absolute. I just loved the untrue story about a woman's touch on his last show before he died. And Ed Haris was awsome! Well done!
Cristina, Athens,
I thought it was absolutely wonderful. True, much artistic license was taken but I think the volatile and passionate personality of Beethoven was caught by Harris. The 9th's sublimety is open to all and hopefully piqued some interest.

Ok the music is absolutely wonderful. Reason enough for the general public to sample "Copying Beethoven" themselves.
There are very few movies about Ludwig Van Beethoven so anything at all is a bonus!
Once the glorious Ninth is heard on surround sound in the cinemas, born again music lovers will be clamouring for Beethoven's "Irish" Symphony the magnificent Seventh.
Then They can take a look at the very rare portrait of Beethoven
