Better than land, wisdom or being the father of a thousand sons.” Gypsy musicians tend to talk in hyperbole – on this riotous six-week tour of the US, we are introduced to the fastest violinist in the world; the mother of 47 children; and the daughter of a singer so fat that she looked like a cathedral. The colourful mythology of the Romany people swirls as thickly as the smoke from their cigarettes.
The infectious gypsy rhythms enchant the American audience, and the shared cultural history shapes a bond between the musicians. This film is impossible to watch without a toe tapping and a big smile.
