A Very British Gangster
To me, this seems to be gangster porn, a documentary version of all those Mad Frankie Geezer books in which vicious thugs boast about all the heads they’ve busted and banks they’ve robbed. The investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre has made a film that could provide the Manchester crime boss Dominic Noonan with the kind of free publicity that could boost his notoriety. Noonan is reportedly a drug baron, linked to a number of unsolved killings, and has, it is claimed, made millions of pounds from his criminal activities. You would never guess from the way he and the young boys we see him keeping company with (Noonan is gay) dress and live. Talk about grim up north; even rich gangsters apparently live like poor people on council estates. The Reservoir Dogs style of the documentary hardly makes Noonan and his pimply sidekicks look cool, and is truly risible.
