We Are Together is a spiritually uplifting documentary about the children of the Agape Orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal, an institution that provides a roof, bed and a surrogate family for children who have lost their parents to Aids. Most of the children at the orphanage are also part of Children of Agape choir, singing their way through the bleakest of times.

And there are plenty of bleak times for these children. Slindile, a 12-year-old girl with a smile as bright as the African sun and one of the main singers, travels home with her younger brother and sisters most weekends. There, her older sisters struggle to make ends meet, and her older brother wastes away from the same disease that took her parents. But despite the shadow of sickness, the house is full of song and laughter. Tragedy has become a banal fact of life; grief coexists with normal existence. The director, Paul Taylor, has done a remarkable job in winning the confidence and trust of the children; the result is a joyfully life-affirming film.
