Attend an evening with Andre Agassi
Okay, everyone. Gather. We're awaiting the announcement of the Best Actress winner. Kate Winslet's the favourite after being passed over five times.
Expect a Golden Globes-style meltdown if she wins.
04:29 Danny Boyle takes the Oscar
Danny Boyle literally jumps up and down beside the podium after winning his Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, the movie's seventh (seventh!) of the evening. "My kids are too old to remember this now, but when they were much younger, I swore to them that if this miracle ever happened, I would receive it in the spirit of Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh," he explains, breathlessly. "That's what that was." He then thanks to Academy. "You've been so generous to us this evening," he says. "I want to thank you for an extraordinary show you've done; I don't know what it looks like on the television, but in the room it's bloody wonderful."
He then apologies for missing the name of a choreographer off the credits.
Boyle's parting shot: "To Mumbai: all of you who helped us make the film, and all of you who didn't, thank you so much, you dwarf even this guy [points to Oscar]"
Will Slumdog win Best Picture? Stay tuned...
04:05 Slumdog continues to clean up
So far I haven't counted Slumdog wins as British wins if the person who collects it is part of the Indian crew. Perhaps I should revise this. Regardless, the movie has taken its fifth Oscar for Best Original Score. The award goes to A.R. Rahman.
Oh, and now a sixth Oscar, also for Rahman, who wins Best Original Song for the slightly cheesy 'Jai Ho'. So far, Danny Boyle has spent the entire evening with his head in his hands. It will be an enormous upset if he doesn't take home Best Picture.
Also: Eddie Murphy has presented Jerry Lewis (Dean Martin's former comedy partner) with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Not to be confused with Jerry Lee Lewis.
