We hope you like this puzzle, it is the sort of variation that the teams in the World Sudoku Championships were solving with, generally, unbelievable speed. Click the link at the bottom of this article to print off our Easter Su Doku special.
To solve the puzzle, place a digit from 1 to 9 into each triangular cell, so that it appears once in each outlined shape, and in one horizontal and two diagonal directions (jumping any gaps).

An American, Thomas Snyder, won at the World Sudoku Championships - he was the stand-out solver. Also in the play-offs on the last day was Britain's David McNeill, from Belfast, who made it through to the semi-finals - a fantastic achievement. All the other Britons on the team came in the top 100 players (141 took part) and overall the British team came 11th out of 32 nations. Japan came first. It was humbling to watch so many people complete so many puzzles so quickly.
I know that the better puzzlers out there have been enjoying the challenge of times2's recently-introduced Super Fiendish puzzles - you will find nine of them in this supplement. For something a little easier on the brain, go to our centre spread which has Spot the Difference, Polygon and, my personal favourite, Battleships.

The Times started the UK
Su Doku craze in November 2004 when the first Su Doku puzzle was published in Times2. It is now the papers most popular puzzle.
If you've managed to avoid it until now and fancy giving it a go then it's simple to learn, requires no mathmatical knowledge and is a great test of logic. Take a look at our How to Play Su Doku guide.

Heres how I solved the print problem:
Print from Acrobat.
In the print options dialog find "Page Scaling" and set it to "Tile all pages", then set "Tile Scale" to 67% and you will see the preview window change to 29.7 x 42 (A3). This will be printed as two A4 pages (two A4 tiles).

Why, suddenly does interactive sudoku require a pass word and tells me that I am not authorised to access the document ?
Merv
Merv Newman, Larnod, France
Why have you reduced the number of Sudoku puzzles in Times2 - by all means introduce new puzzles but please don't deprive us of our daily 'fix'!
Geoff Betteridge, Dibden Purlieu, Southampton
I have solved sudoku on my pc for over a twelve month, till today when it produced an error message telling me it could not access the program. Has the program just died on me and how can I resuscitate it please?
ray russell, eastleigh, hampshire / UK
Recently I haven't been able to access the sudoku numbers here in canada either.
how sad. i had five days of a great feature, only to be followed by three days of frustration.
the times giveth. then they taketh away.

Cyprus - it's worse for us here in Moscow! Fot the second week running the interactive sudoku has failed and when it is restored we cannot access the backnumbers. it can't be that difficult to operate the site even in the holiday season. Surely any itinerant IT student could be employed to maintain it?
john hutt, Moscow, Russia
Stiil no interactive su-doku!!

An easier way to print those puzzles that you want is to increase the size in Adobe to 150 percent; use the picture tool to copy the selected puzzle to the clipboard; open Word and paste from the clipboard; save the puzzle. Repeat, deleting the previous puzzle and using Save As. I copied all of the more difficult Killers in less than 5 minutes.
Linda Richardson, Melfa, VA
The web-based interactive suduko does let you enter more than one number at once - just click the little triangle in the top left.
I must admit, I too was 'disgusted' that the Times didn't allow me to print the suduko as economically as possible. Particularly considering they've put it on a free area of the website, thus negating the need to spend any money what-so-ever. Disgusting behaviour...

Spring Sudoku.
To print only what you want in more detail, try the following:
1. Choose 'Picture Tasks' (Adobe .pdf files), 'Export Pictures'. Save only the page(s) you want, to a folder of your choice (saves as .jpeg).
2. Open the new file in Microsoft 'Paint'.
3. Use the selection tool to select only the region you want, and save to Windows Clipboard.
4. Press Ctrl + N, (no need to save when prompted).
5. Copy the clipboard contents to the new blank screen.
6. Save the new image with a .jpeg extension.
7. Open Explorer, select the new image, and open with 'Microsoft Photo Editor' (right-click the file and choose 'Open With').
8. The new image appears, automatically resized to a full page, which you can print off. All the small totals in eg. Sudoku Killer are clearly visible (don't select too many puzzles at once, or you'll lose the detail again).

Could we please have the booklets in a more print friendly format? I have just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to print to A3 on the office printer with no success! Although my brain power is increasing my eyesight gets worse after every bank holiday!
Phil, London, England
Be better if your web-based "interactive sudoku" allowed you to enter more than one number in a box at once... Others do...
Thanks
Shaun, Norwich, UK
I agree about the difficulties of printing off the spring su doku booklet - those of us with less than perfect sight will have problems here.
I would have bought the Times for the pull out supplement if I had known about it in advance. A marketing opportunity missed - perhaps you will give those of us who print out the killer su doku daily a "heads up" in future and your weekend sales might increase accordingly ...
Judy Hoffman, Leeds,
Can you add the Samurai Soduko's online too please - they're my favourite!
Suzy , Deal,
The mottled grey background doesn't help either
Mark Alington, Manchester,
The numbers in the killer sudoku are impossible to read. When I increase the size they are just too blurred to be sure what they are!
It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to doing them!
Jackie, Derby,
Blimey "disgusted" gone a bit insane there have we?
If you like sudoku that much that your going to go insane about it then buy the paper with that puzzle in it had loads of sudoku puzzles in, you dont have to be on mega salaries to do that.and dont be so rude about the people who do them. are you trying to keep your brain from atrophying? is that why you do them?
Ros, Inverness-shire,
He's still correct, even if overstated, about the lack of editorial awareness and consideration.
don, Milton Keynes,
CALM DOWN MATE!!!! it would have been cheaper if you went to the shop.
Scott , Leyland,
Cheers!
So whose clever idea to print the 'flower' soduku on a black background?
Do you realize how much ink this takes? Like me, I suspect many of your Soduko addicts are pensioners keeping their brain cells from atrophying. Needless to say the only page i printed off was page 2 and then I had to make 2 prints and cut and fiddle about to get all the puzzles and ended up with one line twice.
Next time, never mind the pretty layout, make it practical and cheap to print on a home printer, we're not all London based on mega salaries!
Disgusted from Devon , Exeter,
More killers please!
