Robbie Williams will doubtless be dismayed, but unsurprised to hear that he is virtually certain of being awarded the Worst Album prize in this evening's NME Awards. In a widely reported ‘leak’ (which politely includes the name of the event’s sponsor) the rock weekly’s editor Conor McNicholas is quoted as saying: "Readers have been clamouring to elect Robbie's Rudebox as their Worst Album. He's not having a good time of it."
The album, arguably his most ambitious but certainly least successful since he left Take That in July 1995, has sold something in excess of three million copies worldwide: a triumph for a new act, but as the key record release for EMI in 2006 regarded in industry circles as something of a disaster. It should be noted the title track reached Number 4 in the UK Singles Chart, equalling the position of his most celebrated release Angels.
At least Williams will be spared the ignominy of seeing any success for his erstwhile colleagues Take That at the awards. In keeping with the NME’s ‘indie’ ethos the nominees for best album are Kasabian, The Killers, Muse, My Chemical Romance and ageing hipster’s favourites The Arctic Monkeys.
The trophy – a life-sized sculpture of a hand with middle finger aloft, is allegedly being delivered to The Meadows clinic in Arizona where Williams is currently a resident. We understand that the policy of the clinic is not to accept deliveries to any person undergoing treatment.

No, I think Michael Jackson is the biggest male solo artist since elvis presley, so.....u should say that robbie williams is the biggest male solo artist since michael jackson - true????? - by the way - rudebox is quite a good album - the reason why people are trashing the album is because it's so different to his other albums!!! - and probably the mainstream are more open to his trademark style of music!!!!! - we should judge rudebox in about 3 years!!! Cheers Steve
Steve, Melbourne,
Sorry girls, it's a terrible album. Once Guy Chambers went Robbie's had to fall back on that terrible 'rapping' thing more + more becos he can't write a good tune for toffee.
Let me entertain you was a decent enough single but the guy's like a 2-hit wonder. That and the terrible 'angels' that is the musical equvalent of a burberry cap.

I agree Sadie, anyone that has taste in Music would only use NME to clear up after thier dog that's all it's good for. People have always criticised Robbie if he's doing good or bad, but at least he's got bollocks to try something different and release it, personally it tops any other album i heard last year. Robbie battled through his problems to perform to all his UK fans last year, so he wouldn't let anyone down and still gave an outstanding performance. And all anyone can do his kick him when he's down. NME can shove that award, where the sun obviously doesn't shine.

Folks, Robbie is still the biggest male solo artist since Elvis Presley. I don't care what the NME says the only people buying the new Take That album are old fans. Rob on the other hand has aquired millions of new and loyal fans since going solo.
Keep it solid Rob - you still got another 15 Nr. 1 albums in you yet and yes without Guy!!!!

Yeah. People run Robbie down but that album's pretty good if you bother to listen to it. Its people like the NME who just like to knock people down if they get too big.
Good point about them both being number 4. terrible picture though!

Robbie's Rudebox voted worst album, are you serious?
Rude box was one of the best I'd heard all year. Definately different from what we are used to hearing from Robbie but it's a really deep album, brings back lots of past memories for me. Some of the tunes were quite haunting.
Anyway what does NIME stand for, never heard of it. as for delivering the trophy to Arizona, that shows real class. No wonder I have never heard of these awards, they just do not really mean anything except bad taste to those who organise it.

This article just demonstrates how hypocritical; pointless; predictable; and spineless these so called music award ceremonies and music magazines are! The Rudebox album actually got very good reviews from all the main music magazines eg, MoJo, Uncut , Music Weekly and NME) when it was first released. Especially, the NME Magazine which gave it a review score of 8/10. Although, the magazine will claim that this stupid made-up award was voted for by its so-called music loving readers, it’s pretty obvious that they would vote this to be the worst album of the year. As there has been a relentless vicious brainwashing campaign since the release of this album, by our good old mainstream British Press to discredit Mr. Williams and his work. I also think it is quite suspicious that the name of the winner of this award was leaked to the press in advance on the eve of the ceremony with the sponsors name attached. Call me cynical, but this smells of using Mr. Williams name in order to obtain free publicity for the NME Magazine and its Sponsors. As they know that any negative stories about Mr. Williams will be gleefully taken up by the spiteful negative press in this country.
Karma Killer, Salisbury,
To try and deliver something like this to someone in rehab is as insensitive as it gets. Do these people have no morals? no compassion? however, it does seem that they have a very short memory, considering that they gave this album the following review:
NME gives Rudebox 8/10
Pop and Indie bible 'NME' has declared Rudebox to be an amazing pop album and given it an impessive 8 out of 10.
The magazine also calls Rudebox the 'best thing' Robbie has ever done and goes on to call 'She's Madonna' his most bonkest song ever'
Rudebox, it says, is a 'fun, frantic, pisstaking mixtape of crystalline 80's electropop' and musically, 'he's just getting started'. 'Love it', it chirps. Cheers!
