What happened to Michelle Stephenson
David Horry, Shanghai, China
As a group, they achieved a lot of success in such a short space of time. It felt like a long time whilst it was happening, but in hindsight it was over in a flash.
Some facts on the 'Spice' album:
- It actually spent 15 weeks at #1 in Britain - six of these weeks were in 1996, and 9 were in 1997. It went on to spend 40 weeks in the Top 5 consecutively, and was still in the Top 40 into 1998.
- It was the second best selling album of 1996, and the third best selling of 1997.
- It is one of the Top 20 best selling albums of all time in the UK, selling just short of 3 million copies.
- It also topped the US album charts for five weeks.
Single 'Wannabe' spent a month at #1 in America, after debuting at #11 (at the time this was the highest ever debut for a British act in America).
