The Live Earth concerts take place tomorrow with a series of gigs across the globe broadcast live on the internet.
Organised by Al Gore, the environmental crusader and former United States vice president, the star-studded concerts are being held to highlight the threat of climate change.
Madonna will headline the concert at London's Wembley Stadium.
A newly reformed Genesis will perform at Live Earth London during the day, before catching a plane to Manchester where they will kick off the UK leg of their reunion tour.
The environmental extravaganza begins in Sydney at 0300 BST. Concerts follow in Tokyo (0500, all times BST), Shanghai (1130), Hamburg (1230), London (1330), Johannesburg (1830), New Jersey (1830) and Rio de Janeiro (2130), with artists donating their performing time and all proceeds going to Gore's non-profit Alliance for Climate Protection.
The Rio gig will now go ahead after a judge overturned yesterday's decision to cancel it over safety concerns.
Billed by Gore as "the biggest show on earth", the Live Earth events will be beamed to a worldwide audience of two billion people.
"By attracting an audience of billions we hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis," Al Gore said. "But ultimately, corporations and governments must become global leaders taking decisive action to stop global warming."
The London line-up includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kasabian, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran and Keane.
Sir Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake are rumoured to be in talks to appear as surprise guests.
Across the globe, performers include Joss Stone in Johannesburg, the Police in New York and Sarah Brightman in Shanghai.

Watching LIVE EARTH now- MADONNA IS FABULOUS!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know if this will be available on itunes??
Can't wait to see it again !! What a great show!!!!!
heather, Oswego, New York
I think Live earth will bring some attention to Global warming, but we all have to play our part in Doing something to save the earth. The Performers will only make us think about what we have to do and not make us do it - Thats our choice!
Madonna will ROCK wembley tomorrow evening, closing the show with 4 songs!!!! -GO MADONNA

How many venues are there? and how much travel will be involved by the bands? I'm assuming that all of the sets will be acoustical since they would not want to use un-necessary electricity. What about all of the port-o-potties? will every concert goer be given 1 square upon admission to the show?
Will Algore be selling his "carbon credits" along side the T-Shirt and CD vendors? How does Mr. Gore plan on arriving/departing the show?
I think I'll pass on "Hypocrite Fest" Thank you.

The only way to stop the evironmental collapse is to stop the people explosion. This planet can not sustain this many peoples. We must stop the cutting of forests and replant.

Someone should enlighten Geldof that he isn't the only one aware of poverty.
evay, toronto,
I find this somewhat sad. It seems to me that these stars create more greenhouse gases then any of us mere mortals.
But they will tell us to reduce our energy use. But with their wealth they will just buy carbon credits and continue to live lives of luxury.
But they can at least take comfort, knowing that maybe, just maybe, they convinced "the little people" to cut energy use. Then they can fly home on their private jet, to the huge air conditioned mansions, happy, knowing that THEY saved the planet.

Thank God for Al Gore, this is a serious and deadly issue that is not getting enough attention. Bob Geldof, what you are pouting because they did not cowtow to your self-defined greatness?
Jay, Chandler, USA
I think Live Earth is great and we really are ridiculous to not tackle global warming with determination. Do we actually not care about future generations? Well we do but our actions don't match our emotions.

My days on this planet are finite - I'm 66 and no longer immortal. But, I am equally concerned about our futures. All strength to Al Gore and his selfless band of eco-warriors.
I shall be watching.

Razorlight are arrriving by private jet and limo to play two songs. Why?
Also why hasn't Al Gore accepted Professor Scott Armstrong's $10,000 bet that temperatures will remain the same over the next 10 years. It's all getting a bit embarrassing..
