The Spice Girls, ever keen to spread their message of Girl Power to the world, have made a special offer to their fans. Head over to their website (thespicegirls.com) and you can choose an extra location to be added to their forthcoming reunion tour. “You can still vote for your city to become a SPICE CITY!” they urge.

Rather foolishly, the Girls’ web designers have used a fully comprehensive drop-down menu of every single country in the globe, which means that, as well as Edinburgh or Rio de Janeiro, you are free to nominate Kabul, Kandahar – or even Bootle. Spotting the comic flaw in this plan, various sneaky websites, including the celebrity rumour mill Holy Moly, have launched an online campaign urging fans to vote for Baghdad.

So if the Girls do the democratic thing and go where the votes take them, will they be persuaded to swop their zig-a-zig-aahs for ziggurats? And will Victoria bring David over to congratulate the lads on their success in the Asian Cup Final?

The message of Girl Power might be somewhat stifled by the wearing of burkas, but if the fighting is really bad on their arrival, they could always dig up that strange silver body armour they were last seen wearing in the video for their now aptly titled hit Say You’ll Be There.
