The singer Amy Winehouse has pulled out of this weekend's V Festival and cancelled all her touring commitments for August.
In a statement released last night, her spokeswoman, Tracey Miller, said: "Amy Winehouse is putting all her touring commitments for this month on hold until further notice in order to address her health issues."
"Amy will now not be performing at this weekend's V Festival in Chelmsford and Staffordshire. Her family has requested that the media respect Amy's privacy at this time. There will be no further comment."
Winehouse, 23, was taken to a London hospital last week, her record label blaming her admission on "severe exhaustion". However last weekend the singer, famous for the single Rehab, told News Of The World that she had fallen unconscious after three days of drinking and drug taking.
“I was so out of control. It just happened. It shocked me. I’m sorry – I just don’t know what got into me.”
“I’ve scared myself this time. I was all over the place. I know things have got to change. I have to sort myself out,” she said.
Winehouse and husband Blake Fielder-Civil have since checked into a treatment centre, reportedly Essex’s £10,000-a-week Causeway facility.
On Wednesday she left the centre to collect a guitar from her home in Camden, north London, and in an interview with Radio 1 outside her house said: "I'm fine. I've put on half a stone and I feel fine."
Asked if newspaper reports of her drug abuse were true, she replied: "I wouldn't say so, no."
Last night Fielder-Civil said Winehouse has "a few problems," but "she's determined to get well."
"It's been a difficult time for me and Amy, the fact is we are still together and going back to the place tonight.
"We only came back to get a guitar, but of course in the paper that's interpreted as we're both so weak we left after three days. It's the inevitable way the papers are trying to put you down when you're trying to do something positive.
"The main thing is that me and Amy are getting better. Don't worry, she's being looked after. We're going back to this retreat. She's determined to get well.
"It's not as bad as everyone thinks but she's fine, she's loved and looked after."
Winehouse was to play on the V Festival’s large Channel 4 stage at Chelmsford, Essex, on Saturday and Weston Park, Staffordshire, on Sunday.
Earlier this week Winehouse pulled out of two performances supporting the Rolling Stones in Germany. The cancellations followed her failure to appear at the Oya music festival in Oslo and a concert in Copenhagen recently.
Last week, a day before being admitted to hospital, Winehouse was nominated for three prizes at the US-based MTV Video Music Awards – Best Newcomer, Female Artist of the Year and Best Video. Earlier this year she was named British Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards, won Best Comtemporary Song at the Ivor Novello Awards, and picked up the Song of the Year title at the Mojo Awards.
Winehouse is scheduled to tour Canada and the US next month, and is due to play her next British concert on November 12 at the Manchester Apollo.
