American rapper Snoop Dogg will host the MTV Europe Music Awards in Germany this autumn, it was announced today.
Rock royalty the Foo Fighters, and Britain’s favourite androgynous son Mika will perform at the Munich ceremony.
The awards, known as the EMAs, have been given a democratic make-over in time for the November 1 ceremony. For the first time, the public will be able to vote for nominees in all categories, including the new Ultimate Breakthrough Act award.
In his famously unique linguistic style, Snoop Dogg told MTV News he was looking forward to hosting the event. “I've called up the homeys from east to westo west and I guarantee it’s gonna be off tha chain, ya dig.”
The rapper was scheduled to host the MTV Australia Music Awards in April but immigration officials refused to him entry to the country. Australian Immigration Minister cited drug and firearm charges and the rapper’s gang connections when denying him a visa.
Snoop Dogg has had similar problems with UK immigration authorities. He cancelled five appearances with Sean “P Diddy” Combes in March after the Home Office refused him a visa because of a fracas at Heathrow Airport in 2006. The rapper and five other men were arrested on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl, after a fight erupted when some people in his 30-strong entourage were refused entry to the British Airways first-class lounge.
