Rock legends Led Zeppelin are to reunite for a one-off, £125-a-ticket concert, it was announced today.
The band, who disbanded 27 years ago following the death of drummer John Bonham, confirmed they will perform at the O2, the former Dome, on November 26.
Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones will be joined on drums by John Bonham’s son Jason. The concert is a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records, who died last year.
Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini, artists all touched by Ertegun’s guiding hand over the years, will also perform. Nutini was the final British artist that Ahmet mentored.
To defy touts, fans seeking tickets must register at www.ahmettribute.com. Names will then be chosen at random, and tickets will be limited to two successful applicants per household.
Harvey Goldsmith, concert promoter, warned fans not to buy tickets from companies offering hospitality packages at prices of more than £250. The only official tickets for the 20,000 capacity show would be available through the ballot.
Robert Plant, Zeppelin singer, said: “During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator - this performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long standing friend.”
Plant said the show would be a one-off although promoters estimate a world tour by one of the strongest brands in rock could generate £500 million.
The band formed in 1968, from the ashes of The Yardbirds. Their self-titled debut was released and is regarded as one of the pivotal records in the creation of heavy rock.
Famed for Stairway To Heaven and Whole Lotta Love, the band sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their style mixed Arabic influences, pastoral folk and hard rock. The band were notorious for their excessive living while on tour. When Bonham died in 1980, his bandmates said Led Zeppelin was over.
The trio reunited once for a performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert in Philadelphia, which was plagued by technical difficulties, and for their 1995 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
The concert will coincide with the release of a new greatest hits collection in November. Plant had brushed off talk of a reunion and enjoyed critical acclaim for his most recent solo album Mighty Rearranger. His new album is a selection of duets with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss.

Some people have obviously never actually listened to a Led Zep album - heavy metal indeed, what an insult!
The comment about 'the heaviest folk band on the planet' made me laugh though, I was just listening to 'The Battle of Evermore' and thinking they had employed some kind of top class folk singer for that track - one Sandy Denny apparently.
Anyway, they're a rock band through and through, one of the best ever. I just bought three albums on CD having let the vinyl gather dust for many years, and they took me straight back to my youth. Sigh. I forgot how brilliant and how sensual they were, and how mellow many of the tracks are, I love their ballads. I saw them once back in the seventies, and would rather remember that and have the records.

It's just a shame that most blue hearted musicians like myself, can't afford to go. My les paul might not have history like jimmy's, but is still my left arm that wouldn't be sacrificed for any course. Why oh why can't our idols get past any differences for 12 months, stop trying to use the excuse "only if it wasn't about the money" (not that zeppelin has) but many have. It's about us, your fans. Please do a world tour. Dispite the fact that the ballot is fair. Long term fans deserve more. Being born in the 70's, zeppelin was amongst all the big names being played while i was running round the house, but after re-discovering them at about age 15, they were the one's to steal my heart. My father was a pretty accomplished guitarist, so i was always trying to find my influences like he did in 'zappa & hendrix'. I found Zeppelin. I'll just have to go and crank Song Remains the same, listening for that wicked blues jam towards the end of Dazed and Confused ; Jimmy, Jonesy & Bonzo dancing.

Andy Fawcett must be dreaming (or have talked to someone who wasn't Robert!).
Robert is, was and always has been a HUGE soul fan (He was a Mod in the early 60s and also loved Northern Soul.)
I know, 'cos I was there in Kidderminster at the time and knew Robert in those far-off early days, remembering many conversations with him about the latest soul sounds.

I'm sure that I am among the younger of the Zeppelin crowd at 20 years old, but nonetheless I believe these men to be the absolute most talented band ever. I grew up with my father always listening to all of the greats like, The Who, Pink Floyd, Ozzy, Guns, but Led Zeppelin will always be my favorite. I wouldnt miss this one for the world Dad. I Love You.

I grew up with Pink Floyd & Led Zepp since I was 14. I'm 40 now born, brought up in Bangladesh. I saw Jimmy Page's US tour at the Worcester Centrum, Mass, in Nov '89, it was unbelieveable. Next morning news paper said R. Plant was present among the audience. Jason was on drums. Jimmy played Dazed & Confused calling it "Chase", trust me it was a hell of a chase. Encore was Stairway musical with thousands of glowing zippos. I'll never forget. I'm so dissaponted not to find the Live Aid concert part of the three (which I saw live from Dhaka in '85) included in the 4 part DVD & no one has answer to that. I'd love to see Led Zepp but just cant make it to this one. Looking fwd to the World Tour, hope they know we r still around. Have high hopes. Must mention my ultimate dream of seeing Roger Waters came true last February in Mumbai. I made it to the front row, I made a small A4 size banner with a marker pen saying "FANS FOR 27 YEARS - BANGLASDESH". Roger saw me & mentioned me in the encore.

Zep fans have proven how great this band was and still is by showing how much they would like to see them again. anyone who disagrees with this is obviously deaf. plant is the greatest white blues singer in the world, combined with the talents of Page and JPJ the reunion will be stunning. anyone who finds their music a headache is still in Daniel Odonnell land!!!!!

saw Led Zepp in Frankfurt 1980 , fantastic memories, anyone there?
Thankyou to the American army guys who shared their wine, cheese and bread, also the Australian (with the grubby bare feet) who passed the food around, WHO CARED AT THE TIME!!!!!!!

God save us from this headache music. LZ are responsible for polluting the musical world with so-called 'heavy metal'
Please, no more!
And as for thier 'dedication' to Ahmet Ertegun, how hypocritical. He established Atlantic records on the basis of jazz and soul, two forms of music which LZ openly despised. (I well remember a conversation which I had in a West Bromwich pub with Robert Plant, around '73, , in which he dismissed arrogantly soul music, and all of those who liked it.
