Amy Winehouse has finally begun medical treatment for drug problems after cancelling all her concerts and appearing publicly in a state of distress.
The singer, who has admitted heroin use, hit a downward spiral after her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, was remanded in Pentonville prison awaiting trial on charges of assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
A spokesman for her said: “After cancelling the remaining dates of her UK tour, due to physical and emotional strain, Amy Winehouse has been under the care of physicians. Amy and her family ask that her privacy is respected during this difficult time.”
Winehouse has complained about the publication of a picture of her in the back of a car with packages of what one report described as “white stuff”. Her spokesman said: “They were in fact the driver’s hand towels. It is standard practice for drivers to use these towels to wipe down windows and doors after rain. These towels are in the driver’s car at all times when he drives his clients. Any implication or suggestion otherwise would be unfair.”
Paparazzi harassment was blamed for a recent incident where Winehouse, 24, was said to have been found wandering the streets late at night barefoot in just a bra and jeans. The spokesman said: “The constant bombardment by certain agency photographers at her home has increased anxiety and caused disturbance.”
Winehouse is being helped in her battle against drugs by the rock singer Pete Doherty, who claims to have beaten crack and heroin addiction.

Get help Amy. You are truly a very talented woman. Don"t let
drugs ruin your life and career. Just do it Sweetheart! You can just have to make up your mind to do so. I speak from experience honey.

amy has great talent......and....amy is physically,
mentally and spiritually sick....and it is a progressive sickness.......it cannot be treated in
a hurry.....
i too pray amy gets into a longtime treatment
center (with no press)... like an island in the
caribbean.....and then a 12 step program like
NA for the rest of her life.....i know i've been
in one of those programs for 30 years.

Lets face it. Most great artists have 'something'. Be it a troubled childhood, abuse or emotional problems that leave them open for raw emotion. They use that situation in their art. Art is pain and stress relieve for them In Amy's music you feel her raw emotion and pain. I hope she gets her live together and her problems sorted out.
But....
She wouldn't be succesfull without the problems that trouble her. Its a shame those problems drive her to drugs and a selfdestruct lifestile but a clean trouble free Amy would be just another idols 'I wannabee a great singer runner up'. It would miss that 'certain something'.

Stop giving press space to these druggies, it's not entertainment to watch people voluntarily flush their lives away, screwing over their fans as they go I should add, and then make these pathetic attempts to get clean whilst remaining in the public spotlight.
Focus on artists who actually get on stage and put on a good show.

I am reminded of Grace Slick, 68, who was the lead singer in Jefferson Airplane, a big rock group in the late 60s. Winehouse resembles her, minus the tattoos (hair, demeanor) but Winehouse is headed for death unless she becomes desperate enough to go to NA or some 12 step program. NA is over 50 years old, based on AA but with its own "Big Book" and literature. Death may not be physical, but spiritual and emotionally. Alcohol abuse is the worst, but combined with narcotics it is devastating. I hope she realizes that rehabs are not time shares. Will it take a woman's prison to get her attention?

please! not another janice joplin! when will the artistic world realise that drugs just stifle the talent, not enhance it. wish amy all the best in her ensuing struggle, she is a unique talent.
pete philips, swansea, wales, uk
Enormous talent, incredible emotions when she performs.. she is in desperate need of help but she has to want it and has to do it for herself - have been there myself and know just how hard it is,probably much more so for Amy cause the world is watching her . she will have a very tough road but am pulling for her to make it
Mosey, Prov, USA
I am so glad Amy that you have at last sought help. You are such a beautiful and talented young woman with the world at your feet. Use the world to give you all the support that you need to recover, (which you will with time). There are lots of people out here who are praying for you and sending you white healing light, just let it in. Be possitive and soak up the love being sent you.
Kay Edwards, Bacup, Lancashire, UK
As a grateful recovering addict I know what it is like. It saddens me to see someone in that state but it takes what it takes. I hope she finds help,

We should not believe this claim of drug treatment until we see a schedule. And the doctor's name. And a published protocol, detailing treatment specifics. *** The worst case would be a "Howard Hughes" pattern scam to loot her assets. If she remains dependent and paranoid, this risk will be present. Any number of hard men, criminals, will be challenged to separate Amy from her millions. *** Bluntly, no other medical doctor I know would agree to drug treatment where there is no control. No blood tests. No extended therapy. No dental treatment, considering that she has lost 2 teeth from cocaine poisoning. (Cocaine forms an acid.) *** Simply, this "statement" is not credible as it stands. Amy's life remains at risk. The photos from 5 AM, out in the cold, undressed, shoeless, delusional -- these images speak for themselves. *** Please, pray for Amy Winehouse. A truly wonderful young woman, apart from her substance abuses.
