TRACK OF THE DAY: Switchblade
WHO: HeartsRevolution
BAND MEMBERS: The founding duo is boy/girl combo Ben and Lo. Rather cryptically, according to their MySpace, he plays "invisible weapons" whilst she "glows in the dark". Interesting, interesting. Furthermore, they are joined by a live drummer by the name of Prince Terrence (formerly of Baltimore rude bois Spank Rock) and, I kid you not, a stage visual director in the form of London art school student Kate Moross.
WHAT: From a distance, this electro-pop-come-neu-punk outfit mirror almost perfectly the same onstage set-up and crazy musical diversity of Crystal Castles. However, underneath the surface, HeartsRevolution, hailing from New York, harness the brighter and essentially more vibrant parts of electro than their Canadian counterparts.
THE HYPE: ‘HeartsRevolution are the model for the modern pop group. One day all bands will be like this.’ - NME
WE SAY: This gritty, much-anticipated demo has the same beautifully reckless and crazy abandon as a young Miss Kittin (before she went well, properly crazy). That’s infectious to say the least.
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: Where to begin. To highlight one attribute, the band refuses the tradition of a tour bus, instead opting to trek the country in their trusty HeartsChallenger – an old school ice-cream truck, from which they have been known to frequent neighbourhoods handing out sweet, sweet heart-shaped vinyl. With that kind of decadent indulgence, who needs ice cream?
WHEN CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: Their previous two records have sold out, but for the love of God keep your eyes (ears) peeled for an ice cream truck that doesn’t sell Mr Whippy in a town near you as they are touring the UK this month!
