Amy Winehouse has the chance to add to her haul of gongs after receiving three nominations for the prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting awards.
Winehouse, currently recording the theme tune for the next James Bond film, is the first artist to receive two nominations for the top prize, Best Song Musically & Lyrically.
Love is a Losing Game and You Know I’m No Good were both autobiographical highlights of her six-million selling Back To Black album, which has garnered five Grammys and a Brit award.
Winehouse, 24, a Novello winner on two previous occasions, is also nominated for Bestselling British Song with her signature hit, Rehab.
While the singer has promised to conquer her drug issues, Winehouse’s record company believes that her recovery remains fragile.
She regularly visits husband Blake Fielder-Civil, incarcerated in Pentonville prison, where he is on remand over assault and trial-fixing charges, due to be heard in June.
Winehouse is challenged in the Best Song category by the relatively unknown band Ben’s Brother, nominated for their song Let Me Out. The group is led by Jamie Hartman, who has written hits for Will Smith and Emma Bunton.
The nu rave scene is recognised with a Best Contemporary Song nomination for Klaxons. The Mercury Music prize-winning group, who mix rock, techno and sci-fi themes, compete with their biggest hit, Golden Skans. The London singer/songwriter Kate Nash is also nominated for her conversational chart-topper, Foundations.
The Ivor Novello Awards are a favourite among musicians because they recognise genuine compositional achievement. International stars are expected to receive special awards at the London ceremony next month.
The Performing Right Society, which stages the awards, announced today that composers and songwriters are receiving record royalty payouts from their songs being used online, in pubs and on stage.
The Society, which collects and pays royalties to composers, songwriters and music publishers, distributed £110 million for the first quarter of 2008, up by more than a third on a year earlier.
