TRACK OF THE DAY: Let’s Talk About It

WHO: SXSW-wowing Texan trio James Petralli, Josh Block & Steve Terebecki aka White Denim

WHAT: DIY, paint-stripping garage, with (some) bells on, that could blow out the hardiest of cobwebs.

THE HYPE: ‘Combines the Stooges' raw power, Hendrix's psychedelic flourishes and the White Stripes' stripped-down blues rock’ – Rolling Stone

WE SAY: Yes, there is a laziness to making comparisons like the one above, but sometimes the truth can be that simple. Granted you could add the potency of early Kinks, the smarts of The Futureheads and the drive of The Hives to that list and you’d probably have a complete picture of White Denim.

But that would do them a disservice. When you strip down rock music to its elements, there are only so many ways you can skin a cat. White Denim just happen to be very adept at skinning them.

Let’s Talk About It is solid unfettered goodness, like the first drink after work. Vital, scuddy and unfussy, it also has a wicked percussion breakdown.

IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: music’s gain is baseball’s loss. Virtually every other male in singer Petralli’s family has played professionally, but he thought better of it. Still, they did hit a home run at SXSW with their blistering live shows.

WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: Let’s Talk About It is released on the May 5, with their a debut album, Workout Holiday, following on June 23 through Full Time Hobby
