Attend a special evening hosted by Mike Atherton

TRACK OF THE DAY: Cappuccino
WHO: The Knux – New Orleans brothers Krispy and Al Millio.
WHAT: An example of what’s currently known stateside as Hipster Rap – hip-hop that concentrates on the breezier side of life. See also Cool Kids.
THE HYPE: ‘Like cappuccino itself, this song is hot’ - LA Weekly
WE SAY: Like MSG, old school hip-hop has an ability to cause involuntary salivation. When stripped of the playa-gangsta trappings and taken back to its earlier simple charm, it can offer unrivalled moments of pure joy – I refer the jury to Outkast’s Hey Ya and Fatman Scoop’s Be Faithful.
Knux were flagged up by Zane Lowe as an SXSW highlight and Cappuccino is what his colleague Tim Westwood would call a banga. Built on a fresh-sounding crunchy guitar hook that harks back to the power riffing era of anthems like JVC FORCE’s Strong Island and Young MC’s Know How, Krispy and Al’s lazy unpretentious delivery also evokes fond memories of Tone Loc and A Tribe Called Quest – teaching us the valuable lesson that you can’t spell funk without fun.
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: As well as having Eminem’s management behind them, TV and film companies are going nuts for them. Cappuccino has already been used in an episode of Entourage, and it’s on the soundtrack for the upcoming Harold and Kumar sequel.
WHERE CAN I GET IT: No UK release has been scheduled so far, but the Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay soundtrack is available on import.
