Amy Winehouse was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences yesterday in the talented but troubled singer’s latest brush with the law.
Winehouse, 24, was questioned at a police station in East London about the possession of drugs. Scotland Yard said that the arrest was in connection with a video of the singer that was passed to them in January.
Footage obtained and published by The Sun appeared to show her inhaling fumes from a crack pipe after a 19-minute drugs binge. She was also allegedly shown snorting Ecstasy and cocaine and admitting to having taken six Valium.
Winehouse received a police caution two weeks ago and apologised after slapping a man. The Grammy winner was arrested on April 25 and spent the night in a cell at Holborn Police Station, Central London, before being questioned.
She was alleged to have headbutted a man, who had hailed a taxi for her, before punching a second man. A spokesman for the singer said that she had “slapped” a man with an open hand.
A spokesman for Winehouse confirmed last night that she had been arrested after attending the police station voluntarily, and was cooperating fully with inquiries.
Blake Fielder-Civil, the singer’s husband, is on remand awaiting trial for charges of assault and perverting the course of justice.
Winehouse suffered a further blow last week when Mark Ronson, the producer of her award-winning album Back to Black, reportedly said that she was in no fit state to record. They had been expected to record the theme to the new Bond film.
