Amy Winehouse has been released from police custody after being arrested on suspicion of drug offences, police said today.
The Grammy-winning soul singer, who was cautioned for assault less than two weeks ago, was held after she handed herself in at an East London police station on Wednesday and was questioned by detectives for more than nine hours.
Scotland Yard said that the arrest was in connection with a video of the singer that was passed to them in January. Footage obtained and published by The Sun appeared to show the 24-year-old singer inhaling fumes from a crack pipe after a 19-minute drugs binge. She was also allegedly shown snorting Ecstasy and cocaine and admitting to having taken six Valium. Winehouse has not been charged.
“At 1 pm on Wednesday, a 24-year-old woman attended a London police station by arrangement,” police said in a statement. “She was arrested in connection with alleged possession of a controlled drug.”
A spokeswoman said today that the woman, based in Camden, north London, was released on bail until later this month pending further inquiries.
Winehouse received a police caution two weeks ago and apologised after slapping a man. The talented but troubled singer was arrested on April 25 and spent the night in a cell at Holborn Police Station, Central London, before being questioned.
She was alleged to have headbutted a man, who had hailed a taxi for her, before punching a second man. A spokesman for the singer said that she had “slapped” a man with an open hand.
Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, the singer’s husband, is on remand awaiting trial for charges of assault and perverting the course of justice.
The latest Sunday Times Rich List said Winehouse, whose battle against drug addiction has often overshadowed her recording success, is worth about £10 million pounds.
She did not attend the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February, but still managed five big wins, including record and song of the year for Rehab and best pop vocal album for her breakthrough release, Back to Black.
The singer suffered a blow last week when Mark Ronson, the producer of Back to Black, reportedly said that she was in no fit state to record. They had been expected to record the theme to the new Bond film.

There is no proof that what she was taking was illegal. All the police have is video of her inhaling something from a pipe, She should of asked them to either charge her with something or stop wasting her time.

Why is this women getting special attention. She is an ok singer with a major drug problem who seems to be making a mockery of our drug laws and having a huge influence on the young people of this country.
If this was a average person in the street - they would be in prison - lose their job etc.
PSB, Leicester, UK
If they don't charge her, our drug laws are a mockery. One rule for Amy and Peaches where they make appointments at the police station and get escorted home. One for the rest of us who'll get arrested and put in jail if we were to take drugs like they do.

Desmond, Barnstable.
If Amy was not famous she could steal five cars, burgle three houses whilst on drugs, then ask for thirtysix other offences to be taken into account and walk away from court with an ankle tag.
If the main concequence of taking drugs was the law then it shouldn't be ileagle

How can we all keep watching this Amy Winehouse ship-wreck. We must act! She must go to rehab and bloody stay there, and get help from the celeb community. Get Russel Brand to help sort out Amy! She needs a circle of psychotherapists with her all the time. She can not be alone.

amy is prob a musical genious ... i truely hope she records enough music to leave for us to enjoy because she's destined to end this mortal coil way to soon.
mariah, new york city, usa
It is about time this woman faced the courts, and was sent to jail. If she wasn't famous or is it infamous) she would be there already. I have no sympathy with drug users. They make there choice, and they must live with the consequences.
Desmond, Barnstaple, UK
Amy needs a firm hand, or a couple of firm hands, to control her right now, and get her back on track. If people around her don't get a grip on her very soon, she'll end up dead very soon. She won't get out of the downward spiral on her own.
magdalena Gniatczynska, london, uk
