WHAT: To borrow the name of a club night – Twee As F***

THE HYPE: ‘There are plenty of acts to get excited about in the new folk scene. However, there may be none more promising than Noah & The Whale’ - Good Weather For Airstrikes

WE SAY: If for some reason, you judge bands by whether you’d fancy your chances against them in a fight, then Noah And The Whale will be right up your street. Resolutely placid, chirpy and deeply inoffensive, they peddle some truly delightful brow-mopping folk rock that would nestle nicely alongside your Jonathon Richman and Sarah Records collections. There’s a light playfulness going on, though I’m unsure if this stems from the fact that Charlie’s voice slightly sounds like Emo Phillips trying to be Chris Martin.

A charming acoustic-mariachi serenade, Shape Of My Heart offers joyful hope that the music industry hasn’t been completely ravaged by cynicism.

IF I ONLY KNOW ONE THING: Unless I’ve got my maths badly wrong, this lot are, like Bloc Party, managed by a former member of Menswear.
