WE SAY: There will always be those who think that white guys can’t and shouldn’t do funk; that it’s a vain hope as they can only ever hope to get a B+ in funk, while the black dudes are straight As all the time. Of course there’s a sound argument for that – Prince and Bootsy or Jay Kay and Curiousity Killed The Cat? It’s no contest really. But that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t have a go.

Even in a raw and unpolished state, Make This Work, which has got Zane Lowe all a bit fruity, is a towering beast of hip-twitching indie joy which has enough in the groove locker to pack 'em on the dancefloor in the Vatican. A knickerbockers glory of tight-trouser wailing falsetto vocals, majestic guitar licks and commanding stick work, this is an infection that you’ll soon be wanting to scratch.

IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: The lads met Jay-Z the other week at The Wireless festival. They were really chuffed. Jay-Z would probably not have let on if he was pleased too. He’s a bit funny like that.
