WE SAY: Don't say the American rockers are never good to you. Their new album, Only By The Night, may not be released until September, but they're offering a free download of this track, Crawl, on their website until Sunday.

This song has the same slower, sexier sound that the boys began to develop on third album Because Of The Times. Caleb Followhill's voice is as heartbreaking as ever, and fans will notice the same reverb effect he used in On Call.

As the title suggests, this actually crawls along in a raunchy, almost grungey, style. The sludgey bass drives the song along, forming a steady, chugging verse that grabs hold of you and gets your foot tapping in captivation. Then the verse kicks in and grabs you by the scruff of the neck to take it up a notch. But it's the screechy guitar solo towards the end that knocks you off your feet and leaves you wanting more. It's gorgeously genius.

Crawl may be an indication that the Kings Of Leon are moving further and further away from their earlier uptempo, riotous sound, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The rough-and-ready rock is still there, it's just developed a mature, confident swagger. If there are more beauties like this on the album, September can't come soon enough.

IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: This wasn’t planned, you know. The Kings planned to do sod all for the rest of the year, but their Glastonbury headline slot got them all going and spurred them on to make Only By The Night.
