TRACK: WTF feat Pase Rock and Kid Sister.
WHO: Washington producer Jesse Tittsworth and chums.
WHAT: Hipster rap meets electro breaks house.
THE HYPE: " Fun is the first priority here, and in that area, not to mention numerous others, Tittsworth more than succeeds " - XLR8R.
WE SAY: Yep, it’s a rum old time for hip-hop at the mo. Not since the happy pills took hold and Pharrell emerged has it been so lively, with such rich crossover potential, yet without cost to its creativity.
Drifting in on the hipster rap wave, while also bringing up the rear of the Baltimore club scene, comes the unfortunately names Jesse Tittsworth and oh yes, the phrase ‘He’s the Titts!’ has been used.
A man incapable of not making a record that doesn’t instigate hands-in-the-air euphoria, he’s a party wrecker incarnate, his electro twitchy bouncy ADHD ouevre one long command to dance. Much of it sadly loses relevance outside of a club setting, but WTF is a rare one that successfully translates from bassbins to ipod.
Blessed with guesties from Chicago furnace Kid Sister and Pase Rock of arch scenesters Spank Rock, this isn’t just a bomb, it’s a cluster bomb with a laser tracking device. Rocking the old-school breaks motifs and touches, it features the most insanely catchy chant ‘Wassup!’. The pair pause only to ask ‘WTF?’
Now I don’t know if Pase had a cold that day, but ToTD fave Kid Sister runs away with this. Sparky, nimble and dynamic, her gymnastic drawl is irresistible, and her flow nuzzles up to the rhythm’s nape like nobody’s business.
Would it be too weak of me to say this is ‘the Titts’ too?
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: He’s also a sod for dirty great illicit remixes of rock classics – check his gimmicky, sacriligeous but ultimately jovial takes on The Ramones’ Bitzkrieg Bop and AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.
WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: WTF is taking from Tittsworth’s debut album 12 Steps, which is out August 11 on Plant Music.
