TRACK: Summertime
WHO: Nick Ellis, Lee Smith, Timo Tierney, Nick Otaegui and Dominic Allen make up the Maybes? currently being hailed as Liverpool’s finest export.
WHAT: Chirpy melodic jingle-jangle pop with the odd experimental twist.
HYPE: “The Liverpool five piece has been causing waves in and around the North-West for a few years and now it’s the rest of the country’s time… And believe us your gonna’ be glad. Building up a formidable live sound, the Maybes? have produced some guitar-laden and hook heavy songs that nod towards The Coral and Zutons proving there is something in the Mersey water for sure.” Slow2Fade
WE SAY: With the two weeks sunshine and a thunderstorm that is the English summer now a distant memory, Summertime is the closest you’ll get to that balmy night euphoria for a while.
The third single from the band’s forthcoming debut album, the song is an optimistic celebration of endless teenager summers. Nick Ellis, with his rasping vocals, adds a touch of Roger Daltry to Summertime's unmistakable Mersyside guitar pop simplicity, its excitable drums and rising chorus.
Summertime, and the album Promise, will cement the Maybes? growing reputation as one of the North-West’s hottest new bands, building on its earlier successes with singles Talk About You and Boys.
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: Promise, the psychedelic title track from the album shows another side to the band. Their performance of the trippy 12 minute long track was one of the highlights of the Latitude Festival in July. The Maybes? will continue to bring a little sunshine to the shivering festival masses – dates include Reading (August 22), Leeds (August 23).
WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: Summertime will be available as a digital download on August 25 and as a limited edition 7” on September 1 through Xtra Mile Recordings. The album Promise will be released on September 15.
